INDICATION(S):In dogs: Treatment of mixed infestations with the following species of nematodes and cestodes: Nematodes: Roundworms: Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina (adult forms and late larval forms). Hook-shaped nematodes: Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum (adult forms). Whipworm: Trichuris vulpis (adult forms). tapeworms Segmented flatworms: Echinococcus species (E. granulosus, E. multilocularis), Taenia species (T. hydatigena, T. pisiformis, T. taeniformis), Dipylidium caninum (adult and larval forms).CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not use at the same time as piperazine compounds because the anthelmintic effects of pyrantel and piperazine may be antagonistic. Concomitant administration with other cholinergic compounds may lead to toxic effects. Re-infestation with tapeworms is certain unless a program is implemented to control intermediate hosts, such as fleas, mice, etc. Tapeworm infestation is unlikely in puppies younger than 6 weeks of age. Teratogenic effects attributed to high doses of febantel have been reported in sheep and rats. No studies have been conducted in bitches during pregnancy. Use of the product during pregnancy should be based on a benefit-risk assessment by the responsible veterinarian. It is recommended that the product not be used in bitches during the first 4 weeks of pregnancy. Do not exceed the maximum recommended dose when treating pregnant bitches.
