Product description CAYA DIAFRAGMA contraceptive cap, 1 piece Who is the Caya diaphragm for? The Caya® diaphragm is a contraceptive intended for all women who want to protect themselves against unplanned pregnancy in a natural and safe way. Over the past ten years, in the search for new, non-hormonal contraceptive methods, the American foundation – in cooperation with the renowned Conrad research institute (www.conrad.org) – has developed a completely new diaphragm. Under the working name SILCS (single-size contraceptive barrier device), thanks to the use of new materials and refined shapes, the long-known method has been significantly improved. The round shape of the new diaphragm has been changed to a more anatomically fitted oval. The metal spring in a classic diaphragm has been replaced with a nylon ring that conforms to the anatomical shape. The diaphragm is lightweight (only 4 grams), easy to fold, and easy to insert into the vagina. The research was sponsored by a group of scientists from the CONRAD organization in Arlington, near Washington, USA. For the first time, MRI studies were performed with the new diaphragm in the body. A key issue was investigated regarding diaphragm size adjustment. The results showed that SILCS eliminates the need for adjustments, as the diaphragm automatically adjusts for most women. CAYA® DIAPHRAGM The new diaphragm has been well received in many countries and parts of the world, including those where this method was previously completely unknown. Preliminary results were obtained from a recently completed safety study involving 450 couples at ten different family planning clinics in the U.S. The results of this multicenter study will be published soon. The American foundation, which supports research on SILCS and manages patent protection, appointed a partner in 2010 to approve and subsequently produce the diaphragm in Europe and the US. This partner is KESSEL personal healthcare, based in Walldorf, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. This company has specialised in the distribution and sale of mechanical contraceptives since 1987. With the results of the completed research on the SILCS research project and having been certified as a manufacturer of medical devices (ISO 13485) since 2005, KESSEL undertook the task of developing and introducing a finished product to the market – a diaphragm for mechanical contraception. The diaphragm project SILCS received the CE certificate in March 2013 and is being introduced to European markets and then to the US market under the brand CAYA® contoured diaphragm. The Caya® diaphragm is manufactured in Germany. The product was launched in 2013 in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Currently, the Caya® diaphragm is used by over 100,000 women in over 30 countries worldwide, including the United States. Action Effective barrier contraception. It acts as a mechanical barrier that prevents sperm from entering the uterus. It is inserted into the vagina like a tampon and placed directly on the cervix, thus preventing sperm from entering the uterus. It lies between the posterior vaginal vault and the niche at the pubic bone. The Caya® diaphragm should always be used with a water-based contraceptive gel (e.g. Caya® Gel), which additionally seals the edges of the diaphragm. The easy and safe use of the Caya® diaphragm has been confirmed in numerous clinical studies. How to use: The Caya diaphragm is one size fits all and fits most women (98%). Nearly 80% of 450 participants in a study conducted by CONRAD, an internationally recognized research and development program sponsored by USAID (the independent United States Agency for International Development), correctly inserted and confirmed correct positioning of the diaphragm in the vagina only after reading the instructions for use (i.e., without additional training or guidance). PUTTING ON 1. Before inserting the Caya® diaphragm into the vagina, fold it by the insertion tabs. NOTE: The diaphragm should never be inserted more than two hours before intercourse. The Caya® diaphragm should always be used with a water-based contraceptive gel (e.g. Caya® Gel), which additionally seals the edges of the diaphragm. 2. Lubricating the edges with Caya® Gel will make it easier to insert into the vagina. 3. Hold the Caya® diaphragm with one hand. Place your thumb and index finger on the positioning tabs located on the edge. The arrow points toward your body. The Caya diaphragm comes in one universal size and fits most women (98%). With your free hand, spread your labia apart. Insert the diaphragm along the back wall of the vagina, as far inside as possible (similar to a tampon). 5. Caya® is correctly positioned when the cervix is completely covered by the membrane and the diaphragm is positioned between the posterior vaginal vault and the niche at the pubic bone. 6. Now, check with your finger whether the cervix is covered by the Caya® diaphragm membrane. The cervix should be completely covered. You should be able to feel it through the membrane. It feels similar to the tip of your nose. If you cannot feel the cervix or the Caya® diaphragm itself: remove it and reinsert it. 7. If sexual intercourse occurs again or if the Caya® diaphragm was inserted more than 2 hours before intercourse, additional gel should be applied using the applicator in the area in front of the inserted diaphragm without removing it beforehand. 8. After sexual intercourse, the Caya® diaphragm must remain in the vagina for at least 6 hours. 9. To remove, insert your finger into your vagina and pull the Caya® diaphragm out by the removal recess. 10. Cleaning and care of the Caya® diaphragm: After removal, wash with soap and water and allow to air dry. 11. Store the Caya® diaphragm in the container provided. The Caya® diaphragm is designed for reusability. After initial use, it can be used for two years. 12. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Caya® diaphragm should never remain in the vagina for longer than 24 hours at a time, as prolonged uninterrupted wear may encourage the growth of bacteria in the vagina.
