MEDICINE FORM: tablet PHARMACOLOGICAL FEATURES: Fenbendazole reaches the parasites orally and blocks the polymerization of the structural protein tubulin inside the nerve axons, interfering with the transport function of the parasites absorption cells. Fenbendazole is part of the group of benzimidazole derivatives. Fenbendazole is a substance with a wide spectrum of action on nematodes, lungworms, certain tapeworms and cestodes. Fenbendazole is received by the worms orally and its action consists in blocking the polymerization of tubulin, the structural protein of the nerve axons, thus disrupting the transport functions of the parasites absorption cells. It acts against mature specimens and developmental forms of sensitive intestinal worms. Pyrantel pamoate acts as a nicotinic-cholinergic antagonist in the ganglia, which causes spastic neuromuscular paralysis of the parasite. Pyrantel pamoate is a tetrahydropyrimidine derivative. It is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic, very effective in treating infections caused by Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum. Pyrantel pamoate has moderate efficacy against both types of worms, but less so against N. americanus. It does not act on trichuriasis or strongyloidiasis. It acts as an antagonist on nicotinic cholinergic receptors in the ganglia, which causes spastic neuromuscular paralysis in worms. Pyrantel pamoate acts against immature and mature forms of susceptible intestinal worms, but does not act on migratory stages in tissues. Pyrantel does not have vermicidal and ovicidal properties. Praziquantel is a synthetic isoquinoline-pyrazine derivative, poorly soluble in water. A unique spectrum of action is reflected in the fact that it is effective in treating schistosomiasis infections, while acting against metazoans and tapeworms. It does not act on Fasciola hepatica and in case of hydatidosis. Praziquantel increases the permeability of cell membranes for calcium ions, which causes muscle contractions of the parasite. While pyrantel pamoate independently reaches a maximum efficiency of 75% and febantel alone 45%, the combination of both substances mentioned reaches an efficiency of over 90%. A further increase in the effectiveness of deworming is given by the fact that all three active substances together cover a wider spectrum of parasites. INDICATIONS: Parasites caused by roundworms and tapeworms in dogs, cats, felines and canids (Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina, Taenia spp., Trichuris vulpis, Uncinaria stenocephala, Ancylostoma caninum, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, Dipylidium caninum, Multiceps multiceps, Mesocestoides spp.) CONTRAINDICATIONS: Ocular cysticercosis and spinal neurocysticercoidosis. Liver disorders. SIDE EFFECTS: Vomiting and hives may occur a few hours after administration. These are reactions to proteins resulting from the death of parasites, and are not due to a reaction to the drug. The preparation may cause torpor in animals. INTERACTIONS: It should not be administered simultaneously with piperazine-based preparations or other antiparasitic agents. ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Oral. The tablets can be administered separately or embedded in a piece of food. A single dose is administered. Do not administer together with dairy products.
